Truc Vila
El Maresme, Barcelona
Detached house
In a municipality in the Maresme region, amidst a setting of numerous residential developments that give way to pine forests, stands a detached single-family house that enjoys expansive views of the natural landscape of Sant Mateu, with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop.
The plot’s steep slope determines the villa’s arrangement. It emerges from the topography and landscape, creating minimal impact on the territory. The villa is organized into three levels: the upper level, designated for energy and transportation; the intermediate level, or main floor, where social life takes place; and the lower level, dedicated to private living. All levels are connected by a staircase that acts as a light well.
The main floor takes advantage of the Mediterranean climate and is arranged around a large porch-patio-terrace, which serves as the central organizing element for the rest of the program.
The materiality and construction of the villa are inspired by the Modernist and Noucentist architecture of the area.
To shield against external weather conditions, lime stucco and traditional Alicante blinds were chosen. Inside, exposed ceramic beams and Catalan bricks have been used—local, low-impact, and circular economy materials, as was done in ancient constructions. Over time, vegetation will become the third element dressing the villa’s architecture, as if it had always been there.
