Igualada N1

Igualada, Spain

The house is located in a complex urban context: the boundary between two very differentiated fabrics, one of low density dominated by single-family houses and another one denser formed by the eixample of Igualada.

The architecture, through the articulation of patios, porches and constructions, responds to this dichotomy.

Looking to the example there is a closed façade, without openings, without a scale, without fence… It is impossible to read its architecture. The only apparent sign of design is a crack of light at night and of shadow during the day.

Oriented towards the residential area, a more open façade is designed. In contrast to the north, it is full of life: porches, pergolas, windows, balconies, terraces, lattices, … A variety of mechanisms that allow the inhabitants to colonize and to live the outer, inner and intermediate space.
